This page sets out what the Recovery Engine is for, what it costs, what is kept about your use of it, and — most importantly — what the tool can and cannot be trusted to do. Nothing here is hidden in a longer document somewhere else. This is the whole of it.
The Recovery Engine returns the original-language text behind an English verse, what a term carried before centuries of translation moved it, and the passages where that movement changes the reading. It is built for the person who wants to go and look for themselves.
It is a tool, not an authority. It does not replace study, a teacher, a lexicon, or your own reading. Where the manuscripts disagree, it should tell you they disagree. Where a conclusion on this site is mine rather than the field's, it is marked as a reading — How This Work Is Done explains that distinction and the method behind it.
Use what it gives you the way a tradesman uses a table of values: as a starting figure from someone who did the arithmetic, checked against the job in front of you before you sign anything.
No card, no sign-up wall, no countdown ticking at you while you read. Search as much as the work needs.
Each one reaches out to several source libraries and then pays for the reading of what comes back. It is small — about a penny — but it is real, and it is mine. If use ever outruns what I can carry, I will put a monthly allowance in place and say so on this page before it takes effect, not after.
If it does, it will buy a larger allowance, not a better answer. The sources are the same either way, and nothing behind a payment will be hidden from someone who cannot pay. Nothing here is a commitment to a price, because there is no price to commit to.

The words you type are recorded so I can see what people are actually asking. That record shapes what gets built next and which terms get written up first — the questions people bring are the best map of where the teaching has gone thin.
Nothing about you is kept in your browser beyond what any web page keeps. There is no account to create and no count following you between devices.
There are no accounts. Nothing stores your name or your email unless you hand them to me yourself by writing to me.
Nothing here is sold, and there is no advertising on this site. The whole point of the work is that you can check it — an arrangement that quietly collects and resells the people checking would be a contradiction.
Do not treat a single search as settled fact. Follow it to the source. That is what the references are for, and it is the habit this whole site exists to build.
The Recovery Engine is offered as it is, and it can be wrong — a reference mistyped, a term with a contested meaning, an answer drawn from a repository entry that needs revising. If you find one, tell me and I will fix it and say that I did.
It is not legal, medical, financial, or pastoral advice, and it is not a substitute for a person who knows you.
Availability. This runs on ordinary hosting and depends on services I do not control. It will occasionally be down. You are not paying for it, so I owe you no refund — but write to me anyway, because I would rather know.
Changes. If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them, and anything that affects what you pay will be said plainly rather than absorbed into a longer document.
